This session provides an overview of the BOCES 4 Science Streamlining Guides, including their purpose, organization, and key features. Participants will learn how to navigate the guides and use them to support planning throughout the school year.
Explore the new Kindergarten Matter Mini Unit aligned to K-PS1-1 (Plan and conduct an investigation to test the claim that different kinds of matter exist as either solid or liquid, depending on temperature). Participants will become familiar with the unit's organization, instructional resources, and key components to support successful implementation.
In this session, teachers will begin by revisiting the latest 5th grade NYS Science Assessment, exploring recent clusters aligned specifically to 4th grade performance expectations.
Teachers will be introduced to the first supplemental “Booster Pack” designed to extend each Mystery Science Unit by strengthening students' use of the Science and Engineering Practices (SEPs) and Crosscutting Concepts (CCCs) embedded in NYSSLS. Participants will explore how these targeted activities build scientific thinking, increase rigor, and help students develop the skills needed to meet state assessment expectations.
